Some members of the casino industry have been concerned that several states have introduced bills regulating online gambling. This concern is based on the assumption that the proliferation of online casinos could have a negative impact on land-based casinos. However, a new study suggests that online gambling is actually driving the growth of brick-and-mortar casinos.

iDEA Growth Group (iDevelopment and Economic Association, one of the leaders in the U.S. online gaming industry, has produced a report showing how the growth of online gambling is creating value for casinos in the regions where it is implemented.

The biggest example of this is poker. The astonishing growth of online poker this century has done nothing but flood the poker rooms of brick-and-mortar casinos. Thousands of players from all over the world play at home before heading to the casino. The growth of online modes has not driven people away from casinos, on the contrary, it has brought them closer to the game.

iDEA founder said: “The rise of online poker in the 2000s led to a massive explosion in live poker, attracting new players who had never been to a casino before. The survey confirmed what we already knew. Online Gambling and face-to-face gambling can coexist and even reinforce each other.”

The study considered factors such as: food, population growth and Impact of the pandemic.

Eilers & company Krejcik Gaming conducted the study. The data collected showed that in states where online gambling has made progress, land-based casino profits increased by an average of 1.7%. On the other hand, casinos in regions that have not yet adopted the online model have seen some stagnation.
